Growing the Business - Case Study

Solent Design Studio is a Hampshire-based design and print company, providing a nationwide bespoke service in a competitive market. Their competitive nature is in their ability to offer a total design service in house, and produce the finished product in their onsite printing factory.

The Problem
The business was concerned with their current position in the market, finding that their turnover had stagnated over the last few years. Furthermore, the factory capacity and stores had increased to maximum over time causing production to fluctuate. The company needed to evaluate all incoming and outgoing conditions to gauge an idea of the business’ true performance, assess the factory floor layout to ascertain the impact to process efficiency, assess whether the stock could be managed into a more controlled state, invest in a measured plan to control the business moving forward, and to implement a sales and marketing campaign to increase revenue.

The Solution
Solent Design enlisted the help of Succinct Solutions to decrease their waste, increase production efficiency and sales into the business. Our first duty was to improve the shop floor efficiency of the factory so that current and imminent orders could be processed and delivered. We implemented a plan to manage their stock and stores, prioritising access to all essential components and providing a more structured layout of the factory floor for ease of movement. This action also increased factory capacity improving health and safety, and improved overall factory performance. This success also freed up space to install a better kitchen area for all employees to use.

Using our proven skills-set Succinct Solutions designed a business plan encompassing measures to improve the running of the organization; protecting core components of the business while reducing costs and limiting unnecessary spend. These measures improved the on-time delivery and invoicing of the business.

Succinct Solutions also implemented a sales and marketing campaign to boost the Solent Design brand, and exposing the business to new markets. This action increased the order book by winning high-valued customers as well as making the most of the current customers.

The Outcome
With careful planning and the implementation of essential step changes Solent Design were rewarded with a 22% increase in turnover within 12 months. The new layout of the workshop and store areas saw an increase in production, and a vast reduction of overall waste.
Furthermore, with the implementation of the business control measures, Solent Design were able to keep on top of the administrative side of the business, necessitating all paperwork was in order and products were delivered on time.
